TrainingPros Leadership

Steve Kapaun, President

After a ten-year consulting career with Accenture and IBM where he managed large-scale consulting projects, Steve frequently employed the services of traditional staffing firms. He found the experiences to be time consuming with frequent misses on the talent that was required. The staffing firm would spend just a few minutes “taking his order” then provide a stack of résumés of ill-qualified and mismatched contractors who had not been assessed from a skill or personality perspective. The staffing firm did not know the talent, the culture of the requesting organization, or anything about the important tools and methods for development projects. Steve saw an opportunity to provide high-quality, cost-effective learning and development consultants to clients with training needs. And with those goals in mind, Steve founded TrainingPros in 1997.

Steve has built TrainingPros by investing in long-term relationships with both clients and the learning and development experts in each market served by local TrainingPros Relationship Managers. He believes that to deliver maximum value to clients, Relationship Managers must understand their clients’ culture, their personalities, management and communication styles, approaches to training, and any other needs that will ensure that the Relationship Managers can identify and match the right consultants to the clients’ requirements – the first time. In evaluating the professionals that join the TrainingPros talent pool, Steve stresses that consultants must be met in-person to fully learn about their technical competencies and personality. He has also demonstrated that by paying a higher percentage of rates within the industry and not requiring non-competes that TrainingPros can attract the best learning and development consultants.

As a consultant, Steve specializes in change management, organization development, performance improvement consulting, and instructional design. While with Accenture and IBM, he had the honor of providing his services to Caterpillar, Disney, Wachovia, SAP America, Tech Data, Georgia-Pacific, Toms’ Food, Frito-Lay, and Pepsi-Cola. Steve is a proud alum of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (MBA in Marketing and Organization Behavior) and Northern Illinois University (BS in Finance and Economics) and an even prouder husband to his wife, Marilyn, and father to his daughter, Camille.
